Hi Ken,
Alex
Alex
Hello
Yes, ND filters have many different levels for us to use. The most common ones we will see are ND2, ND4, and ND8. Basically the higher the number, the more light it will stop from passing through the filter.
To easily remember the amount of light that can pass through these different level of filters, you can think of it this way:
ND2 - 1/2 = 50% of light can pass through (light is reduced by 1 f-stop)
ND4 - 1/4 = 25% of light can pass through (light is reduced by 2 f-stop)
ND8 - 1/8 = 12.5% of light can pass through (light is reduced by 3 f-stop)
I hope this can help you.

Yes...UV and CPL filters have no conflict...you can have both filters on your lens at the same time...but when removing the CPL filter you need to becareful, because 1/2 of the CPL filter is loose and can be turned in both directions and the other 1/2 is fixed to your UV filter...so you must hold on and only turn the 1/2 that is fixed to your UV filter to remove it.
TIP: if you can not remove your UV Filter, perhaps it's just too tight. You can try to use a rubber band and wrap it around your UV filter then try to turn again, this should make it a lot easier to hold on to and turn.
Michael
thanks a lot
i was too worried of breaking the filter n the lens..
i had made it thru anyways , thank you so much
Hi Michael,
Your information is very helpful.
By the way, will the picture quality down graded when using protector and CPL at the same time?
Also, can advise how to use the CPL correctly? The front piece len can turn and I saw an arrow marked on it, just do not understand.
Thanks!
Allan
CPL is the English short name of 偏光鏡
UV filter is a lens filter that limits the Ultraviolet light from entering the camera. It is just a "protector" for DSLR now.
CPL Filter = Circular Polarizer Filter =
The purpose of a polarizer filter is basically used to block out "polarized" light. Polarized light means all light that are reflected from a non-metallic surface. For example, glass, and water, etc...
Glass:
A CPL can be used to filter out the reflections from a glass window so you can see into the darker interior (for example, you will be able to see the passengers in a car when the sun is bright in the sky).
Body:
A CPL can be used to filter out the reflections from the surface of a body of water so you can see through the surface (for example, you will be able to see far beyond the surface of a clear pond where normally you should only see your own reflection).
NOTE: Most light from are reflected in the air by air and dust particles and therefore a large percentage of the light coming from the sky are also polarized. Therefore when you use a CPL filter, you will be able to block out a large amount of these polarized light and you will be able to capture a darker sky and white clouds will have more details and become more prominent.
UV Filters = Ultraviolet Light Filter
As Facebook User mentioned, these filters are now commonly only used for protection perposes rather than really filtering out UV light in digital photography. But when using UV filters as a protector to your lens, be aware of the quality of your filter. Because after all, you are adding another piece of glass in front of your lens, if your filter's quality is not good, it will for sure degrade your image's quality. In more serious cases, low quality UV filters has also been known to cause autofocus inaccuracies and serious flare issues.
I hope this helps.

Hi, Alex Tan
how about nikon D90 and canon eos 500d?
can u give comment?my budget below Rm3000.
i m new for dslr.
dear Alex
Hi, Alex Tan
